“On the eve of
death, it isn't too late to start one's life from the beginning”
The Siege of
Leningrad 1942. Two boys and a girl meet in a derelict flat and
survive a war that will change them and their world forever. Time
moves on. The love that developed between them in that extraordinary
winter is all but forgotten. On 31st December 1959 an unexpected
visit forces them all to make the ultimate New Year's Resolution:
“Hundreds of
thousands died, so that we should be extraordinary, triumphant.
Don't be afraid to be happy. Remember your Promise”.
Exactly 40 years
after it's premiere, starring Judi Dench and Ian Mckellen, Broken
House Drama presents a major new production of Russia's answer to
Look Back in Anger.
