Chapel Lane Theatre Company presents SHAKESPEARE'S
R&J by Joe
Calarco adapted from William Shakespeare's play
'A brilliant
play, imaginative, thought provoking, well staged
and
acted. Almost "The History Boys" meets "Romeo and
Juliet".
Highly
recommended!'
Fresh from a run in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Chapel
Lane Theatre Company presents "Shakespeare's R&J",
an exciting and refreshing new adaptation of the
bard's original love story.
Four talented young actors play
boys at a strict and repressive boarding school.
During the day they
are forced to go through classes in religion, Latin
and even the study
of women's roles in society. After classes have
finished, one of the
boys produces a copy of Romeo and Juliet and they
all take it in
turns to read passages from it.
As the play progresses the boys
become more deeply immersed in the characters and
themes of the
play and the lines between acting and reality become
blurred.
This production is presented by arrangement
with Josef Weinberger Limited
