Pulling Focus Ltd and The Micawber Theatre Company presents
The World premiere of
TRISTRAM SHANDY: GENTLEMAN
Adapted from Laurence Sterne's  novel by Callum Hale,

The Tabard Theatre presents the world premiere of Tristram Shandy: Gentleman,  Laurence Sterne’s celebrated anti-novel.

Follow Tristram Shandy, himself as narrator and commentator, as he attempts to tell his life story as fully as he knows how. Will he ever manage to get through it all? A fast-paced romp through Sterne’s madcap world of diverse characters and plans gone disastrously awry. We meet Tristram’s constantly thwarted father, his gentle uncle Captain Toby Shandy, and many more.

Laurence Sterne was an 18th century Anglo-Irish novelist and vicar, best known for his novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Published in nine volumes over the course of seven years, its bawdy humour was popular with London society and has come to be seen as one of the greatest comic novels in English. A film, based upon the making of a film of Sterne's metafictional novel, was made in 2006 as A Cock and Bull Story and starred Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.

This new adaptation by Callum Hale of Sterne's landmark novel recreates the salacious world of Tristram Shandy and plays a limited run at the Tabard Theatre.
