The
Holden Kemble Theatre Company
presents
The SCANDALOUS CASE OF DR
JEKYLL AND MR HYDE
Adapted
for
the stage from Robert Louis Stevenson's novella by Paul
Kemble
'Robert Louis Stevenson’s oft read tale…
has been staged, filmed, and televised before but never,
I am sure, so effectively as in this thrilling version.'
Richmond and Twickenham Times
'Robin
Holden takes the two titular characters and undergoes a
truly skilful transformation from one to the other. It’s
a highly authentic piece of acting. Philip Mansfield
visibly ages himself into Jekyll’s mentor Dr Lanyon.
There is much to recommend this play - the writing, the
diversity of the performers and the authentic creation
of the atmosphere of the original piece.'
The Stage
'Robin Holden is equally convincing in both roles, a
tour de force is no exaggeration. Miss Nicole Hartley is
both appealing and moving as the much put upon wife, and
their maidservant, while Philip Mansfield as a fellow
doctor and the family solicitor exudes legal
respectability, and rectitude. Altogether great
entertainment and just the job to start the Christmas
season.'
Chiswick Times
Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival, The
Holden Kemble Theatre Company bring a chilling new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s
classic horror - with a cut-throat razor-sharp modern
edge.
Young physician Dr Henry
Jekyll is desperate to make a name for himself,
researching hazardous and revolutionary medicine. One
dark night he appears at the office of his solicitor,
Gabriel Utterson, demanding that his will be redrawn to
exclude his devoted wife and to bequeath all his
possessions and considerable inheritance to the
notorious Edward Hyde, a violent and vicious villain.
Driven by dread-filled rumours and religious
righteousness, the lawyer’s investigation soon becomes
an obsession, as he finds his own moral surety under
attack when faced with chilling scientific heresy,
hot-blooded adultery and brutal murder.
Set against a backdrop of
conflicted Victorian values, The Scandalous Case Of Dr
Jekyll & Mr Hyde is a thrilling visceral journey into
the duality of one man's nature.
